Każde z królestw natury: królestwo zwierząt, roślin i minerałow - posiada swoją własną doskonałość.
Człowiek żyjący pośród nich, obserwując je, może czerpać z nich wiele inspiracji w swym dążeniu do własnej, ludzkiej doskonałości.

(Each of the kingdoms of nature: the kingdom of animals, plants and minerals - has its own excellence.
A man who lived among them, watching them, can draw from them a lot of inspiration in his quest for his own, human perfection.)

Snow Kettles

(c) Beata Sobolewska-Woźniak
A view from the edge of Great Snow Kettle.

Snow Kettles - Śnieżne Kotły in Karkonosze range are cirques or niches eroded by the glacier. There are two kettles: Small Kettle (ca 550 m. long, 400 m. width, 300 m. depth) and Great Kettle (800 m. long, 600 m. width, 300 m. depth), divided by rocky bed. The granite walls are 100 m. high. The Kettles area is natural and biosphere preserve with some unique, endemic species, like specific type of saxifraga - Saxifraga moschata basaltica - it's the only place where this type occurs. Also lot of alpine and arctic types, and, what's interesting, lichen type Rhizocarpon lecanorium which is the oldest plant in Karkonosze (some of them are 600 years old).

Three Pigs

(c) Piotr Woźniak

Yes, that's the name of this rock formation - The Three Pigs. Located near Szrenica Peak (1,362 metres) are one of the most impressive rocks in Karkonosze Mountains.
Karkonosze range, which is part of Sudety, are filled with such rocks. Mountains are very old, those strange rocks were created during the erosion process. Rocks didn't eroded evenly, some parts were more resistant to this process - that way such forms appeared. The process begun somewhere in Carbon, as far as I know...

(c) Piotr Woźniak

And, of course, there is a legend about creation of Karkonosze... But I'll write more later ;-)

In The Hall Of The Mountain King

(c) Piotr Woźniak

Karkonosze - old mountains on the border between Czech Republic and Poland.
This epic peak is Łabski Szczyt (Łabski Peak, Violik in Czech), 1471 m. above sea level. Name comes from river Łaba (Elba), one of the ancient slavonic holy rivers. Its sources are located on southern sides of the peak.

Monsieur Iris Explained

(c) Piotr Woźniak

Monsieur Iris is quite handsome drake, we have to agree.
This lovely duck is Mandarin (Aix galericulata). Originates from Asia (eastern Russia, China, Japan), was imported to Europe in XVIIIth century as a decorative fowl. Evaders from collections had planted in city parks - that's how European population started.
Currently they are rare - according to Wikipedia there's only about 7000 pairs in Asia and a bit more than 1000 pairs in Europe, mostly in Britain.
I can't say how many is here. Probably there is about 20 - 30 pairs in Warsaw's parks. Mandarins are under strict protection in Poland.
In China Mandarins are symbol of conjugal affection and fidelity.

Dante's Prayer

(c) Piotr Woźniak

(c) Piotr Woźniak

Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars

Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares

Loreena McKennitt, Dante's Prayer
(From "The Book Of Secrets", Quinlan Road 1997)
